Macbeth’s reign as king has been marked by paranoia and a ruthless determination to maintain power. He views any expression of doubt or hesitation as a threat to his authority. His command to “Hang those that talk of fear” reflects his desire to silence dissent and assert his dominance over those who might question his rule.
As Macbeth’s grip on power weakens and his enemies close in, he becomes increasingly isolated and desperate. He refuses to acknowledge the fear and doubt that may be creeping into his own thoughts, instead lashing out at those around him who dare to express such sentiments.
